General medicine is the medical specialty dealing with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases especially in adult population. The department focuses on providing preventive, curative and rehabilitative measures. Physicians are skilled in comprehensive care for diagnosis and treatment of multi-system disorders. Internists care for hospitalized and ambulatory patients and may play a major role in teaching and research.The Department of Medicine is conducting classes for undergraduate students with clinical demonstration class, lecture class & seminars. Students are taught in such a manner that he/she is able to record the arterial pulse, blood pressure and be capable of suspecting by sight and superficial examination of the body, diseases of the heart, lungs, kidneys, blood etc. Special trainings are imparted to make a student capable of handling medical emergencies encountered in dental practice. Special emphasis is given throughout on the importance of various diseases as applicable to dentistry. The students are trained to examine patients, to take history, to do general physical examination (including build, nourishment, pulse, BP, temperature, edema, respiration, clubbing, cyanosis, jaundice, lymphadenopathy, and oral cavity) and proficient to examine Cardiovascular system, Respiratory system, Gastrointestinal system and Nervous system.
